Kristkindle Good Deeds

This year for Kristkindle we are doing something slightly different than in previous years. Each class in the school will discuss and complete kind, helpful acts throughout the school day.
Today Kereru went on a rubbish hunt outside of the school gate all the way to Salisbury Rd.

FOSP Fun Friday!

Last Friday the Friends of Saint Pauls organised  a fun day.
We had nail painting, crazy hair, a water slide, bouncy castles, outdoor activities, flossy the ballon lady and a wheels track.
If we were living the St Pauls way for 2 or 3 weeks by being nice to others and and doing good deeds for others, you got to go on the water slide as a reward.

Our Elf, Sprinkle Belle!

Our Elf Sprinkle Belle
Last week on Wednesday we got a elf on the shelf.  She was already in the class on a shelf. There was also a box that said 'Special Santa' and inside it had a adoption certificate and a letter from Santa. we named her Sprinkle Belle. She has had many adventures in our class room like having a sleep in a tissues box or when she got into the sticker box and covered her self with the stickers! She had a bath in a ball of wool and cotton wool and climbed onto one of our Christmas wreaths.
This morning we found her playing bingo with kiwi and snowman.

End of Year Concert

Reminder that you will need some 'Biblical' style clothing for the end of year concert. You can shop around at the St Vincent de Paul store or Red Cross and find something appropriate. A large piece of cheap material will also be good (just cut a hole in the centre for your head to go through!) You may wear a head scarf but it's not necessary.
Please stick with neutral colours such as browns, beige, blue, white etc

Celebrations and Festivals

The Middle Syndicate Celebrate Celebrations
image
Celebrations and Festivals are an ongoing part of life, where we say "thanks" for what we have or the milestones that have been passed. Each country, group and family have different celebrations but the connecting threads in these are: fun, sense of thankfulness and appreciation, connection with the traditions of past (in family, group, country), moments of reflection and importance.

As part of our Celebrations and Festivals topic, the Middle Syndicate students have been rotating around Kereru, Kotuku and Kea classrooms each Thursday afternoon to learn about a new celebration.

The students have decorated Calavera (sugar skulls) which are used in the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) and the Catholic holy day All Souls day.
Students celebrated Guy Fawkes day by creating 'Fireworks in a Jar' and firework art.
Candle holders were made (yet to be decorated) to celebrate Diwali, the Hindu 'Festival of Lights'.

The students really enjoyed spending time in other classrooms with a mix of children from across the syndicate.
A big thank you to parents and grandparents who helped out in the classrooms!

Presidential Election

For the past few days Kereru Class have been learning about the electoral process and the Presidential Election.
We had a mock election (The Candy Election) where students had a democratic vote to nominate three types of chocolate and three types of chewy candy. Today was the Primaries (a taste test) to decide on which of the chocolate should be the nominee for the 'Chocolate Party' and which of the chewy should be the 'Chewy Party' nominee. Tomorrow we will have the 'General Election' to decide if the Chocolate or Chewy wins!
In the afternoon we watched the election results on TV and recorded the results on our electoral maps. We also held our own version of the Presidential election. The students had to register to vote and bring their registration card to the voting booth in order to vote. Some teachers and support staff also came in to vote. After they voted they were given an 'I Have Voted' sticker :)
(Hillary won by a landslide btw!)
